Khandro

« Back to Glossary Index

The Tibetan equivalent of dakini is khandroma, which literally means “sky traveler”. “The sky” refers to emptiness and the dakini travels in that emptiness, or space; and so she acts in total realization of emptiness, absolute reality. The dakini can be a female figure in human form who has realized her true nature, or in non-human form a deity, or a direct manifestation of the enlightened mind. Dakini also refers to the class of beings born in the pure realm of the dakinis.
